You’d laugh if you saw through my mind’s eye right now – or possibly be scared.
Three tousled haired thoughts in striped shirts and jeans elbow each other out of centre spot to grab my attention. How befitting a dive into whimsy.
I suppose before bruises turn to bloodshed, I best give each one their turn in the spotlight. Who woulda thunk!
Beckett: Why is it so important to you that I believe in all this stuff about fates and psychics and Santa Claus?
Castle: Because, if you don’t believe in even the possibility of magic, you’ll never find it.
Castle S3E2 – He’s Dead, She’s Dead
The impossible never comes from what we know.
The point of whimsy is not about proof, but empowering ourselves with what might be. Hearts open, minds change and the rest awaits us to see.
We’ve all had our moments. We take ourselves – and Life – a little too seriously for our own good. We grab hold of a job, an ideal, an outcome, a habit, – whatever – with the ferociousness of a dog guarding a bone. We lose sight of everything else with the single mindedness of a ravenous mosquito.
Until whimsy shows up and cuts through the tunnel vision like a breath of fresh air. A bad case of the crazy-crazies meets its match too.
How ironic playful silliness leads us back to reality again.
I’ve often thought fear and embarrassment are in a neck-and-neck race to see which can hold you back faster, or for longer.
We don’t always see them the same, but the fear of looking foolish and being ridiculed runs deep.
Quite heart racing and immobilizing in fact.
Take a deep breath and turn the tables on embarrassment.
Use the power of whimsy to say “Who cares!”
Whimsical is not supposed to be seen as normal. Nobody expects brilliance or logic to pour forth out of fanciful. (How little do they know!)
Use this latitude to your advantage.
Step outside a comfort zone under the guises of whimsy. Worst case is few will notice and best case they’ll join in too.
The more you care less about what they care about, the freer you are to be you.
A demo cut for sure, but leaves lots of room for improvements and clears a hurdle!

Crazy for cats and potatoes, Lorraine's insatiable curiosity of Life leads her to question, explore and push beyond the box. A self-professed "left-brained creative big picture" type, she has an intuitive knack for seeing beyond and beneath first appearances while at the same time nerding out on the details. Most of all she sees and holds others in their highest until they can see it for themselves.
